A 750mm diameter micro-tunnelling project in the central reservation of the main N1 dual carriageway called for a small but effective slurry separation unit. With a site width of only 8 metres and typical drive lengths of only 80 metres the small footprint and ease of loading of the SS150DP were important factors in selecting the PSD equipment for this project. Herrenknecht International are supplying the SS150DP as part of their package to the contractor, Michael Carney Ireland Limited.
The SS150DP is a compact (3.5 x 2.5m footprint) high performance desander with discharge pump which can be used on its own or with a supplementary desilter, Clayball separator or centrifuge. On this project the unit is being used in support of a Herrenknecht TBM. This desander which is equipped with a double deck shaker with a primary and dewatering screen and 2 No. 10” hydrocyclones is proving well suited to the gravels and sands that are being encountered.
