PSD have completed work with
Van Oord ACZ and
Hydraulic Testing Consultants on a pipeline project at Walney Island near Barrow in Furness, UK. The project involved the separation of sand sized particles from pumped sea water in preparation for its use in the hydraulic pressure testing of a gas pipeline. The 6km long high pressure pipeline links the Riversfield Development to Barrow Gas Terminal. Because of the pipeline’s proximity to the sea, it was decided to use sea water for the hydraulic pressure testing. PSD were approached by
Hydraulic Testing Consultants to assist with a solution for the removal of particles which were causing blockages in the 50ìm in-line filters. PSD offered a proposal which included the rental of a
SUPERCLEAN 180 (pictured) and one of PSD’s operators, an order was placed and the equipment was delivered to site the following day. Work was carried out on a split shift basis as pumping and filling of the pipe could only take place for about three hours each side of high tide. PSD have been involved with pipeline construction projects since the 1980s, but their equipment is more often used to clean drilling fluids used in the directional drilling of pipeline crossings. As in this case PSD are always keen to apply their technical expertise in finding solutions to any solids / liquids separation problems.
PSD operate an extensive range of solids / liquids separation equipment, which is rented with or without operators on a worldwide basis. PSD's hire fleet includes clayball separators, primary shakers, desanders, desilters, ultra-fine desilters, mud cleaners, hydrocyclone units, centrifuges, flocculation plants, mud mixers and mud storage tanks.
